Day 2Shkodra, Symbol of National Harmony

Shkodra, on the border with Montenegro and home to Catholic, Orthodox, Muslim and Bektashi monuments, is symbolic of Albania’s national harmony between its various coexisting religions in Albania. The city’s Marubi library houses the largest collection of photos in the Balkans.

Head into the splendid Valbona Valley and cross Lake Komani – a journey comparable to the Norwegian fjords. In the evening, get to know the locals by sharing dinner with them and staying overnight in a local guesthouse.

Day 4Historic Cities of Decan and Prizren

Cross the border into Kosovo and stop at the Decan monastery, a place where Romanesque architecture meets the artistic patterns of the Bysantine world (UNESCO protected). Then visit the small city of Prizren, where in 1878 300 Albanian representatives gather to fight against the Ottoman invasion and home to rich architectural heritage.

Day 5Culture, Lifestyle and Traditions

Kruja, hometown of Albania’s national hero, Skanderberg, is your next stop. Learn about the great leader, as well as local culture, at the Skanderberg museum. Explore the old market’s stalls in a charming square of cobbled streets, perfect for souvenirs! In the afternoon, the Tavern of the Adriatic awaits in Durres. You could visit the old amphitheater as well as the city’s archaeological museum.

Day 6The Prosperous City of Elbasan

Elbasan, once a prosperous city known for its handicrafts, has retained its historical center and cobbled streets. You’ll see its ancient fortress and beautiful houses, as well as one of Albania’s oldest mosques that belies the country’s subjugation to Ottoman rule. Continue to Tushemisht, a small village on the shore of Lake Ohrid. The area’s rich and varied nature secured it UNESCO protection in 1979. The lake and mountains on the horizon offer a breathtaking view!

Day 7Little Paris of Albania

Once a very developed city, Voskopoja is now a charming small village of 500 habitants. In the middle of its cobbled streets, discover its beautiful Orthodox churches.

We will then visit the town of Korca. Nicknamed the “little Paris of Albania”, it is a city of art, love and romanticism. Unravel history at its medieval museum (home to a great collection of Orthodox icons), the French WWII cemetery, the Orthodox Cathedral.

Day 8Canyons of Langarica

Explore the canyons of Langarica before visiting Permet, “the city of flowers” (also famous for its exquisite cuisine). Move on to the UNESCO city of Gjirokastra. Full of distinctive districts and shaded terraces, its main sites are the museum and citadel which will take us back in time through the history of Albania. The city has retained its characteristic “old Albanian houses” architecture and you’ll stay overnight in one of those that has been converted into a hotel.
