This project has started as a result of feeling homesick and nostalgic about all the real and unique experiences during my childhood and adult years back home, in Albania. I can surely say that until the 2009, you could see only a handful of foreign tourists around Albanian main cities, even less on the coast. Without basing this in any of the statistics so far, but only on the personal experience, there were basically the Italian neighbours to come and enjoy the commodities so close to their home, with only one fraction of the price; and the more daring and explorer kind of tourist, the Germans, who were already visiting virgin beaches and canyons. It feels sad to say now how much, we as Albanians, have underestimated the real beauty and value of this small country in the Balkans.
It was the case also for me; until a few years ago I leave my country to live somewhere else in Europe, and the reality hits me. How wonderful it was in Albania. How easy it was to just go out from the house and in 10-minutewalk to find all the bars, restaurants, cafes, full of people, joy, laughter, warm conversations, familiar faces/ How easy it was on the weekend to just be by the beach in less than 1 hour, or climb a mountain only a few hours ride from the capital. How you could simply, even automatically choose the lake, the river, the sea, the mountain, the city, the village, and adapt your experience according to your mood and cravings. For me, this was just a part of the normal way of life. You might say that this is the case in every country, you can choose and go anywhere you want. But can you really do that in the spur of the moment, and decide just like that during your Sunday morning coffee, make a quick call to your friends and in 1 hour find yourself in any of the above mentioned locations? If yes, please tell me where!
To get back to the project, all of this started with a real and honest desire to show and get the European and international people, around me already, to know this small and amazing country I come from, and why not, motivate them to visit it, love it, and share this experience with the world. During the same time that I was inspired to verbally promote my country, I had decided to develop my passion for tourism, and was involving myself in travel groups and gatherings. I was still thinking about focusing in European tourism, and I was making the mistake of underestimating the big interest they had for this authentic country, that I like to call “The Last Secret of Europe”. It took a little time, but I understood I had all the insider tips I needed to create unique experiences for adventurer and explorer travellers.
One of my early mistakes, was to try and convince some of the people I met, why they should visit; when in the meantime there are so many people who already know and want to explore Albania, but do not have enough information, or local point of view, to organise the best experience in a timely and efficient manner. That is when this project started to create itself in my mind.
My proud mission now is to promote Albania, “The Last Secret of Europe”, where authenticity and tradition are still alive, and will involve you in every step of the way. I create customised tours, I change them frequently based on personal experiences,so that everyone can have a real, authentic Albanian journey, and discover a new dimension of the Balkans. Albania, like you’ve never seen it before.
